Governors, trustees and local governors need an enhanced DBS check
This must include a barred list check if an individual is in 'regulated activity' – see paragraphs 317 to 330, and pages 66 to 67 of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025.
They also need a section 128 check.
In academy trusts, members, trustees and people with significant control also need a compulsory identity verification check for Companies House.
