All governors and trustees need a DBS check
All governors in maintained schools, and trustees and local governors in academies, need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
If you're in regulated activity, you'll also need a barred list check

Employers decide whether to accept existing DBS certificates
If you're a new governor and have previously had a DBS check, it's up to the employer to decide whether to accept your existing DBS certificate or require you to get a new check.
