The governing board won't be involved in the decision to ban

As a board, you won't be involved in the decision to ban a parent, because this is an operational decision for your senior leaders.

But it’s important to understand the process for banning parents so you can:

  • Hold your headteacher to account for following your school’s policies correctly
  • Give the parent a fair hearing when their case comes to review

You'll need to check your school's parent code of conduct or policy for behaviour on the school site for more information on your board's involvement after a parent has been banned.

If you're the chair, you might:

  • Confirm the headteacher's decision to impose a ban
  • Review the decision to ban as part of the governing board
