Required training

Governors and trustees should receive training on:

  • Safeguarding and child protection, including online safety
  • The Prevent duty

They should also receive appropriate induction training. 

At least one person on the board should have cyber security training.

These requirements are set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) (paragraph 79) and the governance guides for maintained schools (sections 4.1.2 and 7.7.3) and academies (sections 4.7 and 7.9.3). 

While you're not required to have specific Prevent duty training, at least the person responsible for safeguarding on the board should undertake training to make sure that your board is carrying out all of its responsibilities.
