We asked Bernard Abrams, one of our associate education experts, to provide a list of recruitment interview questions for a primary school deputy headteacher. Bernard is an education consultant and former headteacher.
We have set out these questions in a downloadable interview record sheet, with points on what to look for in the answers, space to record responses, and an evidence score.
There is also space at the end of the document to record marks for several anticipated ‘Key characteristics’. This may be linked with profiling conducted before the interview. Characteristics might include:
- Evidence of leadership
- Demeanour
- Analytical thinking and ability to prioritise
- Self-awareness and emotional intelligence
- Communication skills and articulation
- Clarity and structures of answers
