Required training

Governors and trustees should receive training on:

  • Safeguarding and child protection, including online safety
  • The Prevent duty
  • Appropriate induction training 

At least one person on the board should have cyber security training.

Allergies and anaphylaxis training is required for all school staff, including 'regular volunteers', who are present on the school site at the same time as pupils. Check with your chair if you're unsure whether this applies to you.

Trustees: Trust boards need to have "sufficient and effective financial knowledge and expertise to hold the executive to account", including financial training for trustees - particularly finance and audit and risk committee members.

While you're not required to have specific Prevent duty training, at least the person responsible for safeguarding on the board should undertake training to make sure that your board is carrying out all of its responsibilities.
