- Identify emerging financial risks, variances and benchmarking results that need further scrutiny
- Evaluate financial data and reporting critically to form your own independent view
- Ask informed questions about financial information, and judge whether the answers you receive are satisfactory
- Hold leaders to account for spending public money in line with your trust’s funding agreement and government guidance
- Apply your understanding of the trust’s financial position to board-level decisions on staffing, estates, procurement and growth
