You're free to decide if, and how, governors or trustees can attend full board and committee meetings remotely, via phone or video conference. The DfE told us this. There are separate rules for other types of meeting, such as panels to consider a suspension or exclusion. These must be held in person unless the parent (or pupil if over 18) requests a virtual hearing.
You can also consider a hybrid approach of face-to-face and virtual meetings for your board (as per the governance guides – section for 5.2.1 maintained schools and 4.3.3 for academies).

Have access to a decent internet connection (if they don’t, give them the option to dial in
