Coronavirus: unspent grant money may be carried forward again

Because of the impact of coronavirus, the relaxation of ringfencing announced for the 2019/20 academic year has been extended to also include the 2020/21 academic year. This means your school is able to carry forward any unspent grant money into the 2021/22 academic year.

The carried-over money must be spent in full by 31 July 2022, and your school's spending plan for this year should reflect how you've spent it.

Eligibility 

The funding only applies to primary schools. 

The following types of school receive the premium:

  • Maintained schools
  • Academies and free schools
  • Special schools (including non-maintained special schools)
  • City technical colleges
  • Pupil referral units (PRUs)
  • General hospitals

Nursery schools, studio schools, university technical colleges (UTCs) and independent schools do not receive the funding.
