Who does this apply to?

This article applies to all teachers employed under the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD). This includes:

  • All teachers at maintained schools, including:
    • Senior leaders, such as headteachers
    • Special educational needs co-ordinators (SENCOs)
    • Part-time teachers
    • Non-agency supply teachers
  • Teachers whose employment transferred from a maintained school to an academy at the point of conversion and whose contracts haven't been further negotiated

Pay ranges for 2026/27

There's a 3.5% increase across all pay ranges, and a 5% increase to unqualified teachers' pay.

It will be funded by £1.8 billion in additional government investment over 2 years, alongside funding previously allocated in the 2025 spending review. The remaining amount will be covered through savings from reduced local government pension scheme contributions, and by schools using their existing budgets efficiently.

Please note: grant timings for the 2026 pay award have not yet been confirmed. We'll update this section once
