Statutory and mandatory risk assessments
Use our list of risk assessments that schools must hold to make sure your school is compliant. Download and use the checklist to help scrutinise whether your school is meeting requirements.
Your school must assess health and safety risks to employees and others
They don't need a standalone health and safety risk assessment to meet this requirement.
Instead, staff should know exactly which risk assessments apply to their role, workplace and activities, and should read them in full.
Download our checklist, which can help your school meet this requirement.
The checklist covers:
- Workers under 18
- Substances hazardous to health
- Display screen equipment
- First aid
- Manual handling
- Work at height
- Children being drawn into terrorism
- Swimming pools
Please note: there may be other areas where you need to assess risks, depending on your school's facilities and activities.
You can also use our article on how to scrutinise your coronavirus health and safety measures, although a separate risk assessment isn’t required. Government guidance explains that schools should consider COVID-19 “one risk amongst others” when preparing health and safety risk assessments (see section 1).
