The latest Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework came into force on 1 September 2023 – it’s statutory and applicable to all EYFS settings.

All governors have responsibility for monitoring the various aspects covered under the EYFS framework, but this article is most useful to governors with specific oversight responsibilities, such as link governors for EYFS.

The EYFS framework and profile

The EYFS profile summarises and describes children’s attainment at the end of the EYFS (i.e. at the end
