Be clear on what your board needs to do to pay your headteacher above the headteacher group salary range, and the reasons why you might do this.

This article applies to you if your school follows the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD).

Your headteacher pay range can exceed the group maximum

Normally, the pay ranges for headteachers shouldn't exceed the maximum of the headteacher group.

However, it can exceed the maximum where "the relevant body determines that circumstances specific to the role or candidate warrant a higher than normal payment."

You must make sure that the maximum of the headteacher's pay range, and any additional payments, do not exceed the maximum of the headteacher group by more than 25% (other than in exceptional circumstances -
