What does Ofsted mean by achievement?
Under the 2025 framework, achievement is its own evaluation area and your school will receive a grade for it on Ofsted's 5-point scale.
When inspecting achievement, Ofsted looks at:
- Outcomes in national tests and exams (e.g. KS2 tests, GCSEs and A-levels)
- The progress pupils make across the curriculum from their starting points
- Whether your school provides a high-quality education for all pupils that gives them the necessary skills, knowledge and qualifications to succeed in life, and equips them for the next stage of their education, training or employment, especially:
- Disadvantaged pupils
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
- Pupils who are known (or previously known) to children's social care
- Pupils with other barriers to their learning/wellbeing
