Are there resources to aid MAT trustee self-evaluation and training? This article features a KeyDoc for trustees of multi-academy trusts (MATs) to use to evaluate their performance. It links to key questions for a MAT board, to a self-evaluation tool for the MAT itself, and to training sources.

The National College for Teaching and Leadership (National College) has published guidance on governance in multi-academy trusts (MATs).

Page 7 of the document sets out the key skills and attributes expected of MAT trustees. It says:

Trustees are not expected to possess all of these skills and the list is not intended to be used as a definitive list but, rather, as a starting point for consideration and further exploration.

It says the list can be used in a variety of ways, for example:

  • For personal reading and reference
  • To contribute to self-assessment and self-evaluation
  • As a resource for governor training
