Understand the requirements

The Prevent duty requires schools to “have due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism," as described in Home Office guidance and the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015.

Monitor compliance

As a governor, your role is one of oversight. 

Has relevant policies that reflect the requirements (see our section on policies below) Has a designated Prevent lead and that they have had in-depth training Makes sure staff are appropriately trained in Prevent, including being aware that radicalisation is a safeguarding issue that can put children at risk of harm (paragraph 31 of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023) Assesses the risk of pupils being drawn into terrorism Has good protocols
