The DfE is consulting on options for amending indoor space requirements for early years providers. The deadline for responses is Friday 11 July 2025.

This is just a consultation – your school should not make any changes to its policies or procedures.

Who can respond to the consultation?

The consultation is for those working in the early years and childcare sector, including:

  • Schools with a reception cohort
  • Early years and childcare educators
  • Early years settings, including nurseries and preschools

What is the consultation about?

The consultation is asking for views on whether to include ‘free-flow outdoor space’ in the EYFS space requirements for children aged 2 and over.
