We've summarised the major changes to statutory guidance for the 2025/26 academic year, what's likely to change and what you need to do.

Updates to the governance guides

The governance guides for maintained schools and academy trusts have been updated.

The changes are minor, and include:

  • A requirement for chairs to sign off the PE and sport premium digital report
  • Mental health and wellbeing responsibilities outlined more clearly for boards
  • More guidance on policy expectations for supporting pupils in school with medical conditions
  • Clarification on what Ofsted will do when it receives a complaint about a school
  • School food standards added to 'statutory guidance and additional resources for trusts'

Ofsted will publish the outcome of its consultation on changes to school
