What this policy needs to do
Your school's ECT induction policy, which applies to new teachers who started their induction on or after 1 September 2021, must comply with:
- Statutory guidance from the DfE on ECT induction
- The Education (Induction Arrangements for School Teachers) (England) Regulations 2012
It's not your job to cross-reference your policy with these bits of guidance and legislation. But you should expect your headteacher to have done so.

Remember though, it's your headteacher's responsibility to update these policies – as a governor, your role is to review any changes.
Teachers who started – but have not completed – their induction before 1 September 2021 have until 1 September 2023 to complete induction within 3 terms. So if your school has any NQTs, you'll need to keep your old NQT induction policy in place until
