What this policy needs to do

Governing boards have a duty to make arrangements for supporting pupils with medical conditions, under section 100 of the Children and Families Act 2014.

Be easily accessible to parents and staff Include a named person responsible for implementing it Set out the procedure for responding to a notification that a pupil has a medical condition Clarify the role of individual healthcare plans (IHPs) and who is responsible for developing them List the responsibilities of those involved in supporting pupils with medical conditions, such as the headteacher, governing board, staff, parents, pupils and healthcare professionals Include information about staff training Include procedures for managing medicines, including by children who are competent to manage them themselves Set out what practices are unacceptable Be clear about the need to support pupils with medical conditions to take part in activities like sports and school trips Include emergency
