What this policy needs to do
Governing boards have a duty to make arrangements for supporting pupils with medical conditions, under section 100 of the Children and Families Act 2014.
Be easily accessible to parents/carers and staff Include a named person responsible for implementing it Set out the procedure for responding to a notification that a pupil has a medical condition Clarify the role of individual healthcare plans (IHPs) and who is responsible for developing them List the responsibilities of those involved in supporting pupils with medical conditions, such as the headteacher, governing board, staff, parents/carers, pupils, school nurse and healthcare professionals Set out how staff will be made aware of the policy, and their role in implementing it Explain what training and help staff will receive to support pupils with medical needs Include procedures for managing medicines, including by children who are competent to manage them themselves Set out what
