What you'll learn
Pupil premium funding helps schools close the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers - and this has never been more important, due to coronavirus. We'll help you understand your role in making sure this funding is used as effectively as possible, and the key tasks that will help you make an impact. Learn in bite-size chunks whenever suits you, or set aside about 2 hours to do this course in one sitting.
Who is this course for?
This course is for:
- Any governor (the pupil premium has wide-reaching impacts, so it's important for all governors to understand the basics)
- Pupil premium link governors (if your board has one)
We're working on an update to this course
On 6 September 2021 the Department for Education (DfE) updated its guidance on the pupil premium.
For the 2021/22 academic year, your school is required to:
- Use its recovery premium alongside the pupil premium to support pupils, and report on this in its strategy statement
- Use the DfE's newly updated template to publish the strategy statement
We'll update our page 'How to read your school’s pupil premium strategy statement' shortly.
Governance during coronavirus
We developed this course to help you understand your role in monitoring the pupil premium as it normally works. Coronavirus has affected the information schools have available about the progress and attainment of pupils eligible for the pupil premium (and all pupils).
In addition to following this course, talk to your chair about how the pandemic is affecting eligible pupils in your school, and your governing board's approach to monitoring.
