You should receive reports at least annually

Your board needs to know how your school provides for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Ideally, your school's special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) should report to your board at least annually about:

  • Your school's provision for pupils with SEND
  • The progress pupils with SEND are making

The report will help you scrutinise and monitor this area effectively.

Remember, you're not expected to write this. Instead, use our template to get an idea of what to expect from your SENCO's report.

Our associate expert Lorraine Petersen, who was previously the chair of nasen (a SEND charity), helped us create this template.
