Exclusions: resolving difficulties with parents
Advice on what to do if parents don't co-operate with an exclusion, or behave in an unacceptable way during the process.
If the school can't get in touch with parents
Schools must notify parents of exclusions 'without delay', under the exclusions guidance. Your school should maintain correct and up-to-date phone numbers for parents so that they are able to do this.
Sometimes parents can't be reached despite the school's best efforts. We asked the education services team at Haringey Council for advice on what to do if this happens.
Remember the school is still responsible for the child while they are on site. Sending them home without parental accompaniment could be dangerous.
